About
My name is Carter McCain and I am 27 year old from Gainesville, FL. I’ve been married for 2 and 1/2 years to my wife, Karen. I graduated from the University of Florida with a M.A. in Philosophy and am currently pursuing ordination in the Episcopal Missionary Church (EMC).
“Immanuel Hidden” occurred to me as a way of describing pointing to the tension found in Scripture and human experience between God’s presence/revelation and His hiddenness/mystery. As an Anglican I am committed to the primacy of God’s involvement with His world. I believe the move from Creation, to Law, to Incarnation, to Second Coming reveals a trajectory of increasing intimacy. As a Charismatic I believe part of this involvement is God’s regular revelation of Himself through “signs and wonders” such as answered prayers, healing, deliverance, etc. However, our world is also filled with numerous cries for justice and mercy that seem to go unheard, and a large amount of suffering and injustice that apparently goes unchecked. I want to affirm what Scripture, tradition and much experience say is true of God without minimizing or trivializing the latter realities.
This is something all Christians need to wrestle with, even more so those who claim God’s involvement is regular and miraculous. I want to be part of the conversation that does just that. I expect this blog will be a collection of musings, quotes, anecdotes, reflections, etc. It won’t be overly polished, but things should be pretty targeted. I don’t promise a certain number of posts each week or anything, but I’ll try to contrinute regularly. I encourage you to join the conversation. Hopefully together we can make sense of our Scriptures and our world.
